Of all the New Year’s resolutions people will make in 2012, various websites say approximately 40% regard wanting to lose weight and becoming healthier. Of those remaining, close to 75% of them will fail. Why? Is the resolution is too big? We don’t see results fast enough? Are we too vague? Or maybe it is because we don’t make our resolutions public information.
In my own experience when I tell someone a goal of mine, I’m proclaiming I’m ready to make a change. Asking for help in achieving your goals is a smart thing to do.
I was recently traveling over the Thanksgiving holiday and using a Garmin for navigation, when the direction it was taking me didn’t feel right. So I stopped, and asked for directions at a gas station. When I returned to the car, my mother who was in the back seat, shouted, “Good for you Matthew, your father would have never done that!” I sarcastically thanked her, and we went about our day. Seriously, though, how many times have we been in that situation where we don’t have any direction, and we fail to get to where we are going and never achieve our goals?
If your goal is to lose weight and become healthier, find an expert that can help you do that. Physical therapists can help you with those nagging injuries that are preventing you from achieving your goals. If you fall into the category of having pain, but not knowing the cause, yet have the desire to get healthier, physical therapists can help determine a solution and treat your injury. We will give you education on cause and prevention, along with an exercise program to continue progressing on your own.
Whatever your goals may be, asking an expert for help may be appropriate and vital for you to achieve them. Most importantly INVEST in yourself. I would be willing to bet you get a better return on your investment if you do!
Have a wonderful and healthy new year!
